“I warmly invite each member of our Diocese to participate in this important Liturgy,” writes Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., in a special letter to the diocesan faithful. “The Chrism Mass is a time of profound unity and renewal for our diocesan family.”
The Chrism Mass is celebrated every year in cathedrals in dioceses all over the world during Holy Week. It is a special liturgy that manifests the unity of the bishop with the priests of his diocese, and the Church community as members of the Body of Christ. During the Mass Bishop da Cunha will bless the holy oils that are used in the sacramental life of the Diocese throughout the year: Oil of Catechumens, Oil of the Sick, and Chrism. Also in the context of the Mass, priests of the Diocese will renew their commitment to service. Concelebrating the Mass with the Bishop will be those priests in the Diocese who this year are observing significant anniversaries of priestly ordination.
Continues Bishop da Cunha in his invitational letter, “This year’s Chrism Mass holds special importance as we embark on our new three-year Diocesan Initiative: Stronger Priests, Stronger Parishes, Stronger Church. This initiative aims to profoundly strengthen our priesthood, which, with God’s help, will lead to stronger parishes and a holy Diocese. Your presence and prayers at the Chrism Mass will be a powerful sign of solidarity and encouragement for our shepherds as we recommit ourselves to our sacred calling.”
