Parishes Providing Assistance to Hurricane Victims Author: Diocese of Fall River Press Releases and Statements 21 Oct 2024 Share FALL RIVER — Many parishes in the Diocese of Fall River are collecting donations to support hurricane relief for victims of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. Earlier this month, Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., authorized a special collection for disaster relief in the wake of these recent storms. “Faced with such a great material needs and suffering among our brothers and sisters to the south,” wrote the bishop in announcing the collection to priests of the Diocese, “I am compelled to authorize a free-will offering in parishes as aid to these victims.” Funds collected in parishes for hurricane relief will be forwarded to Catholic Charities, U.S.A. (CCUSA), the official domestic disaster relief agency of the Catholic Church in the United States. CCUSA explains on its website that all donations received for disaster aid will be allocated to Catholic Charities agencies in hurricane-impacted areas that are providing critical relief -including shelter, food and other humanitarian aid- to those most in need. Parishioners may also make donations to support this work of Catholic Charities agencies through the CCUSA website here. In closing his message on the special collection, Bishop da Cunha said, “With gratitude in our hearts for the blessings we have and a sincere sympathy for all those who are undergoing the trials associated with recovery, let us focus our prayers for them and for effective efforts to provide them with relief.’ Diocese of Fall River Office of Communications Categories In the News Press Releases and Statements Messages from The Bishop Bishop's Blog Success Stories Photo Gallery Videos Uncategorized Related Posts Bishop's Blog 16 Oct 2024 Bishop’s Blog: Peace, Preparedness, and Prevention Bishop da Cunha's Building Faith blog features Annual Procession and Mass for Peace, a Catholic Charities update, and upcoming Sunday events.
